New book examines Prometheus activists and the fight for Low Power FM
Cambridge, MA-- A new book, published by MIT Press, examines the activities of the Prometheus Radio Project during the early-to-mid 2000s. Christina Dunbar-Hester, Assistant Professor of Journalism and Media Studies at Rutgers University, presents ethnographic research focusing on the organization's committment to merging technical practice and political engagement.
Low Power to the People draws on participitory research and interviews conducted from 2003-2007 as Prometheus was advocating for an expanded low-power FM service, organizing station "barnraisings" and low-power FM station builds, and fighting for fair media ownership regulations.
