Thurs. Aug.15 6:00-10:00pm - Philadelphia, PA -- Join Prometheus and The Food Trust at Night Market, the city’s premier street food festival. It's a roving food event spotlighting Philly’s best regional restaurants and food trucks. Held this year in the area around 5th & South Sts, it's sure to be a fun evening. We'll have a table at the event and we'll be recording stories from folks about the connection between the local food movement and what local community radio and media means to them. Stop by our table and share your story with us!
Thurs. Sept. 19 6:00-9:00pm - Philadelphia, PA-We'll be hosting a screening of "Where The DJ's Roam." This 2009 film profiles community radio station KGLT out of Bozeman, MT. A love letter to the station, its staff and listeners, the documentary provides a good overview of the challenges and triumphs of working and volunteering at a community radio station, as well as the larger field of radio. Afterwards, we'll have a discussion about how local community organizations can benefit from the upcoming Low Power FM licensing opportunity. We hope you'll be able to join us!
The Nan Rubin Community Impact Fund
In late August 2013, Nan Rubin will step down as Board President at Prometheus Radio Project, and move to New Mexico. During Nan's tenure, Prometheus won a 12 year campaign for passage of the Local Community Radio Act, sued the FCC to stop more big corporations from controlling more of the media - and we won! Thanks in part to Nan's expertise, we shaped the FCC policies for new LPFM licenses and brought national awareness to the community radio movement.
While she's stepping off the board, Nan will still continue to be an adviser to the organization and will always be a huge part of the Prometheus family. To honor her work, we have established the Nan Rubin Community Impact Fund & Award. This revolving fund offers scholarships for station building services and an annual impact award. The goal for the fund is $50,000.
We invite you to join us in Philadelphia on Friday August 16 to celebrate our collective accomplishments and Nan's contributions to community radio! There will be light refreshments and fresh tunes provided by our own DJ Domino. RSVP here!

Attention all current LPFMs! All broadcast stations, including LPFMs, must renew their FCC license sometime between July 2011 and 2014. The process includes reading on-air announcements at specific dates and times, as well as filing Form 303-S with the FCC. Prometheus has created a handy guide to help you through the process.
The next round of license renewals started on August 1, 2013 with a filing deadline of Oct. 1, 2013 for Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington. On air pre-filing renewal announcements should already be underway!

Recently our friends from the Palabra Radio Project were in Philadelphia and shared an exciting new project that takes advantage of the connections
between cell phones and radios. Palabra is headed by Maka Munoz, a former staff person at Prometheus, who has been doing great work in Central America. An exciting new project of theirs is a community owned cell phone network called Rhizomatica that offers subscribers unlimited local calls and text messages for a reasonable rate and the community makes a profit. On August 6, Maka, her partner Peter Bloom and more than 30 people came to Prometheus Radio Project to hear more about Rhizomatica and the network in Oaxaca. Read more here!
